French: Proficiency II (B-KUL-F0AG6A)
Aims
The aim of the course is to further develop the French proficiency on the following points: the written proficiency allows the student to write a coherent text and to expand the grammatical concept apparatus, more accurately from a contrastive point of view Dutch vs. French.
Concerning the oral proficiency:
- the student obtains a unmarked pronounciation of the French language
- he/she is able to make a diagnosis of pronounciation mistakes that are typical of speakers of Dutch
- he/she can conduct a structured expository on a given subject.
For written as well as oral proficiency the further systematic development of French vocabulary will be reached.
Previous knowledge
The student controls the French language as is determined in the final requirements of the course French Proficiency I. Concerning the written proficiency, the student is therefore able to write a French letter, as well as a text that describes and analyzes data. Concerning oral proficiency the student is able to easily participate in a conversation in French, taking the adjusted language levels into account.
Content
1. Written proficiency
On the level of the sentence, the course will revolve around translations, with special attention for the construction of verbs and adjectives, the order of sentence constituents, structure varation of the simplex. On the level of the text, exercises will be made around the summary of one text and the synthesis of a file of texts, with special attention for the logical text structure and its instruments (textual connectors, "organisateurs discursifs", but also punctuation).
2. Oral proficiency
The student runs through a series of exercises in the language practical that are aimed at identifying and correcting common pronounciation difficulties. Next, he/she will do a number of exercises around the different components of oral communication, in which he/she among others conducts an exposition on a given subject.
3. Vocabulary
A final part is aimed at further developing the vocabulary acquisition, among others by using exercises on lexial morphology and systematic exercises on semantic fields.
To achieve this, the following activities will be organized:
1. Written proficiency
- exercises on translations
- progressively built exercises on summarizing information, ending in the synthesis of a file of texts.
2. Oral proficiency
- pronounciation exercises in the language practical (orthophony)
- an exposition on a given subject, using a file that is composed by the student
3. Vocabulary acquisition
- exercises on lexical morphology and semantic fields.
