Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (full-time/part-time)
|
||||
Language : E | ||||
Prerequisites | |
Students with a B.Sc. degree in Biomedical Sciences (K.U.Leuven or domestic or foreign equivalent). In addition, it can be expected that students with B.Sc. or M.Sc. degrees in related disciplines (e.g. medicine, biology, bio-engineering, M.Sc. Industrial Sciences,...) will follow the M.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences curriculum. In these cases, customized transition programs will be proposed.

Admission requirements | |
Academiejaar 2011-2012 Profile and Admission requirements To qualify for admission to the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences at the K.U.Leuven, you must: - Have a relevant bachelor's degree (for example Biomedical Sciences, Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences, Life Sciences). - This implies a bachelor's degree obtained at a high level university with sufficient education in the following subjects: Molecular Cellular Biology, Genetics, Immunology, Anatomy, Pathology, Physiology, Microbiology, Neurosciences, Epidemiology and Statistics. Practical training is also required. Insufficient education in a number of the aforementioned subjects may be compensated by sufficient previous education in other subjects relevant for a Biomedical Science education (e.g. Biochemistry, Pharmacology). - Be proficient in English. - Pass the administrative screening by the K.U.Leuven International Office. All applicants will be evaluated by the admission committee. Selection Criteria All applicants will be evaluated by the admission committee. 1) Credentials regarding prior education In order to gauge whether the expected entry level matches your curriculum, we require that you submit a complete transcript of your academic records. - Certified copies of transcripts and diplomas are required for all applicants. - A complete list of course titles for which you have obtained a credit should be part of this. Indicate also the course size (if possible in ECTS-credits). - Also indicate the results you obtained, preferably according to the ECTS-scale; if a different scale is used, please provide a summary explanation on the meaning of the scores. - For the courses that you deem most relevant as a preparation for the Master of Biomedical Sciences, provide a short (about one half to one page) description according to the standard guidelines for an ECTTS-study guide. 2) Proficiency in English All applicants must provide proof of proficiency in English. To do so, you are required to take one of the following English language tests: - IELTS, Academic module. (Minimum score 6.5-7 pt.) - TOEFL, Minimum score: (Computer-based test 233 pt., Internet based test 90 pt., paper-based test 575 pt.) 3) A motivational letter In which you explain why you think to have the right profile for this master study and how you think will benefit from this study. 4) Two references 5) Additional information (by mail or phone conference) can be requested by the committee before reaching a decision Application deadlines - 1 March for applications of non-EEA citizens - 1 June for applications of EEA citizens - 1 June for applications of non-EEA citizens living in Belgium with a residence permit Application procedure http://www.kuleuven.be/admissions/forms.html Academiejaar 2012-2013 Degree requirement Direct admission: - Graduates of K.U.Leuven's Bachelor of Engineering programme with a sub-specialisation in either mechanical engineering or electrical engineering - Holders of a Master's degree in Engineering degree from a partner of the K.U.Leuven Association. Students with a degree in electromechanical engineering or electrical engineering are permitted to enrol. Admission based on successful evaluation of a complete application file: - Bachelor's degrees not issued by K.U.Leuven: mechanical, electrical and biomedical engineering upon discretion of the Permanent Education Committee.* * This committee can impose a preparatory programme of 6 or 12 credits (to be integrated in the Master's programme) or a preparatory programme of up to 60 credits. The admission policy is intended to ensure qualified European and third country students equal access to higher education. In general the programme will assess students individually on the basis of their previous academic record, a letter of motivation and the availability of places. Language requirement Students should have a good command of English, both spoken and written. Applicants are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English, either by proving that some of their previous studies were successfully completed in English, or by submitting the results of a recognized language proficiency test, such as the TOEFL or another equivalent English test.
